Toluca has several nearby attractions within an 8 mile radius. Among them is the South Mountains which encompasses 100,000 acres in Burke, Cleveland and Rutherford counties. The South Mountains State Park, the largest NC state park, has over 18,000 acres and is surrounded by another 18,000 acres of gamelands. The most spectacular feature of the park is a torrent of water which drops 80 feet over a cliff face of bare rock. Numerous trails are available to the hiker, mountain biker, and horse enthusiast. It is also a haven for the trout fisherman and the nature preservationist. For campers there are 20 backpack camping sites, primitive family camping, group camping, and 15 equestrian camping sites with a 37 stall barn and 19 miles of trails.

Located beside the State Park is the Pine Mountain Resort and Executive Golf Course, a gated community, a lodge, restaurant , and condominiums.

Also, the area has numerous local potters , some of whom have only 3-4 sales a year and others who have regular business hours.
